by Larry Hernandez Leviticus 22:31-33 In Leviticus 22 God is instructing his people on what are worthy and unworthy offerings. It entails giving perfectly unblemished animal sacrifices: 21“If you present a peace offering to the LORD from the herd or the flock, whether it is to fulfill a vow or is a voluntary offering, you must offer a perfect animal. It may have no defect of any kind Animals with defects were not acceptable as sacrifices because they did not represent God’s holy nature. Furthermore, the animal had to be without defect in order to foreshadow the perfect, sinless life of Jesus Christ. When we give our best time, talent, and treasure to God rather than what is tarnished or common, we demonstrate the true meaning of worship and testify to God’s supreme worth. What kind of quality can people see in your service and giving? God wants our Best! Thank god Jesus is our perfect sacrifice for our lives. I encourage you to ask:
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT)

As we recognize great leaders within our community like Todd Wagner or Matt Chandler. We take a step back and realize - everyone had to start somewhere. A lot of times we think in order to get somewhere or be great there is a certain point we need to begin. Really the only spot we can start from is the bottom. Our great leaders today did not get to skip a step. Rather, with determination, hope, and faith, they have shone their light - a light that only comes from one source. Col 3:17 says “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” So how do we put that into practice? It starts with one initial decision. We do not have to be a perfect Christian or have it all together to put these values into practice but we do have to choose to rely on the Lord to help us deliver those values to others. That is when our light shines most brightly - that is true greatness. Putting Christ first, others second, and yourselves last - is how we put the values of Christ into practice and by doing this there is no greater reward. The reward of seeing the lives change that you helped and had a hand in. It all started at the beginning with a simple “yes” or finding time to help someone in need. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13 Where are you right now, today? What's the first step you need to take to live out Colossians 3:17 and John 15:13. Now, take that step in full reliance on Christ. Remember, "You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” |
